More guests now ask an AI assistant where to eat instead of scrolling through map results. They type things like "best grilled fish near me with outdoor seating" and get a short list of names. If your restaurant is not on that list, the guest never sees you. This guide explains how AI assistants pick restaurants and what you can do this week to be one of them.

How AI assistants decide what to recommend

An assistant does not taste your food. It reads what is published about you and looks for clear, consistent facts: what you serve, where you are, when you are open, what guests say. The easier those facts are to read and the more places agree with each other, the more likely you are to be named.

1. Make your menu readable text, not a photo or PDF scan

A menu saved as an image or a scanned PDF is invisible to most AI tools. Publish your menu as real text on a web page, with dish names, short descriptions, prices and dietary notes. A digital menu that shows your dishes as text pages, like the one Foost builds from your existing PDF, gives assistants something they can actually read.

2. Keep your basics identical everywhere

Use the same restaurant name, address, phone number and opening hours on your website, Google Business Profile, social pages and delivery apps. Small differences confuse both search engines and AI assistants.

3. Describe what makes you specific

"Great food, friendly service" says nothing. "Wood-fired Adana kebab, family tables for eight, vegetarian mezze, open until midnight" gives an assistant phrases to match against a guest's question. Write it in plain language on your homepage and menu.

4. Collect recent, detailed reviews

Assistants lean on reviews to judge quality and to learn which dishes you are known for. Ask happy guests to mention what they ordered. Reply to reviews, because answers add useful detail.

5. Answer real questions on your site

Add a short FAQ: Do you take reservations? Is there parking? Do you have halal, vegan or gluten-free options? Can you host a birthday for 12? These are the exact questions guests ask assistants.

6. Publish regularly

A blog or news page about seasonal dishes, events and local sourcing shows that the business is active and gives assistants fresh material to quote.

A simple checklist for this week

Put your full menu online as text. Check that name, address, phone and hours match on every listing. Rewrite your homepage intro with three specific details. Ask five recent guests for a detailed review. Add an FAQ with at least five questions.

Nobody can promise a place in an AI answer, and each assistant works differently. But restaurants that are clear, consistent and easy to read give themselves the best chance. Start with the menu: it is the first thing a guest, and an assistant, wants to see.
